Add “Campaign” to Stewart, Colbert, Kamau Bell…

GOOD MOVIE FOR THIS POLITICAL SEASON

Have you ever seen a movie meant to entertain, and then, to your surprise, the politics turn out to be radical indeed?  V is for Vendetta, was like that for me, and now, years later, the Guy Fawkes masks are a prominent feature of every Occupy demonstration.

So the current movie Campaign (Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis) will please you.  A crazy, rollicking campaign pits an incumbent North Carolina congressman against a Koch-like sponsored newcomer.  Sexual scandals abound, of course, and each ad brought to you by Citizens United is more misleading and funny than the last.

A fun-filled spoof, right, and worth seeing just for that.   But the real message, worked in from the side until it becomes the centerpiece,  is that America is literally for sale, with plenty of amoral profiteering entities ready to buy.  You may think you know this already, and of course you do.

But honestly, if the American public took the content of this movie in, we would have a different electorate—united, and pissed as hell.   See it, and see it now, right during the spectacle of the Republican convention if possible, and if not, at some point down the home stretch of the election.  Along with Stewart, Colbert, and Kamau Bell in this political season, it will not be a waste of your time.

Barbara so happy to visit and interact on your blog! During my week in Florida this was the one movie that I went to see with my sister. We loved it too. I especially liked the US flag pin grew in size with every new scene. I’ll add this to my favorites and stop by periodically. I also am intrigued by the book on Allende…
